Homemade Non Toxic Weed Killer

This has to be the easiest weed killer possible.

I actually discovered it on accident when I was canning last year. After I finished canning, I dumped the water off my back porch, and two days later, there was a huge brown spot in our yard where I dumped the hot water!

Lesson learned.

So here is what I do now, when I need to kill some weeds.

  1. Boil a large pot of water from our rain barrels
  2. Add a 1/4-1/2 cup of salt and stir until dissolved
  3. Pour on the undesired weeds

In two days, the weeds should turning brown.

After- (and the chickens did scratch it up a bit after the weeds died…)

Because of the salt, you shouldn’t try to plant anything else in the area you used the weed killer on. If you want to kill weeds or grass so you can plant a garden, I suggest using a tarp over the area for a while, or simply removing the salt, and just using the boiling water.
