10 Item Wardrobe Summer 2016

Last summer, I listened to this TedX talk by Jennifer Scott, and my world changed significantly.

Her 10 Item wardrobe totally upended my concept of a minimalist wardrobe. Now, I look back at my old Minimalist Wardrobe post and chuckle at how much unnecessary clothing I had, and how many items I owned that I really didn’t like.

The 10 Item Wardrobe makes me feel MUCH more stylish and liberated from any clothing that I don’t really love, and it supports my minimalist lifestyle as well.

Here is the link to Jennifer’s blog, and her Madame Chic books. Like I said in my post about my favorite blogs, I don’t have any affiliation with Jennifer or her books. I just love them so much that I wanted to share with you guys.

(PS- she covers a lot of awesome stuff besides just the 10 item wardrobe!)

All that being said, I have been frustrated this spring with my wardrobe because of all the postpartum body shape weirdness. Not exactly back to “normal” size yet, but not wanting to go shop for an entire wardrobe that I will only wear for a few months. Ugh.

I FINALLY have gotten together a 10 item wardrobe that I am quite happy with- many thanks to a couple people who gifted me some items, and being a few more months down the road.

So, here is my summer 2016 10 item wardrobe:

My 10 core items start with this pair of white jeans from Banana Republic:

These pink pants are something I have wanted for a long time, and thanks to my personal shopper (my sister) I now have them!

Khaki  and denim shorts, because it’s super hot and humid during Virginia summers.

My blouses are very versatile and can be mixed and matched with the pants and shorts.

Lastly I have a favorite cream sundress.

Normally, I would have a couple more sundresses in the mix, but I haven’t found many nursing friendly ones that I love.

For my extras I have 4 tee shirts to round things out.

Wearing one right now.

Also, because of my lifestyle, I have a pair of “gardening shorts” and a stack of casual tank tops that I use for gardening, milking, and goat stall mucking. I also have a couple formal dresses that are not pictured here.

That’s it folks! I have winter/fall clothes as well in the back of my closet, but this is everything I am wearing these days.

Oh, and I still only do laundry once a week…    😉

I found my way over to your blog via Madame Chic. Your ten item wardrobe picks are adorable! I read most of your blog… great information.

Hi! I was so excited to read this post and how you implemented the ten item wardrobe concept. I too live in a rural setting with farm animals and similar interested. Ironically I just did a post on the challenges of looking presentable in this type of “messy” setting. I’m so excited to have found your blog through Jennifer. Thanks for sharing this and showing how the ten item wardrobe can be adjusted to suit your lifestyle.

Yes! It took me a little while to figure out how to work the 10 item wardrobe with the “messy” parts of my life too. I’m going to check out your strategies as well!
